Keur Khadija
La Maison des Enfants is a school for under-resourced children on Ile Gorée, Dakar, Senegal.
Opened in 2015, Keur Khadija is a supportive community space that provides a much-needed option for the children of Île Gorée, located off Dakar's coast in Senegal, West Africa. While Île Gorée appears to be a small paradise to tourists, local working families, who subsist on the tourist trade, are subject to poverty and insecurity and are often unable to afford childcare. To overcome these challenges, Keur Khadija was born as a space for academic support, educational development, and play. Keur Khadija's mission is to strengthen academic achievements, the taste for learning and develop curiosity and creativity through art, sports, and recreational activities.
